Eastlands Velo Cycling Club
Eastlands Velo Cycling club will help hundreds of local children to take up cycling
Having a club development plan that includes attracting new local kids to our club we came up with the idea of two projects:
One was to allow local kids to share our Velodrome track sessions with our riders and make new friends .The other was to allow local kids to come and have a go at our road and time trial racing sessions held in the Velodrome car parks
The above two projects needed financial support for equipment and track hire and if we were successful there was lots to gain for our club and for local kids
Having done some very successful pilot projects we found the demand was very high and most local kids did not have bikes that were in a safe condition
For project one and with the help of Sarah Whitelegg a development worker from Novas Scarman we decided to apply for a joint funded grant from A.G.M.A and The Community Foundation for Greater Manchester
For project two we applied to the Youth Capital Fund for equipment, this fund was run by children and had to be applied for by a child with the help and support of an adult on behalf of our club
We were successful in both grants with a grant for project one of £9600 to pay for track time for our club riders to share with children from the 10 local authorities of Greater Manchester over a two year period.
The youth capital fund gave our club £8,496.35 to purchase bikes and equipment for our club riders to use on cyclocross and to allow local kids to take part in road sessions at the velodrome.
Eastlands is very happy with these two grants and they will allow our club to develop and attract new local kids giving them a healthier lifestyle and a better social interaction in a safe and secure environment of the Manchester Velodrome ( thanks for their support as well )
