Royal Oak Community Centre

The Centre was gifted to the people of Royal Oak in the 1930's by Noel Timpson (a local businessman) and over the years has gone through lots of changes.

More recently, the centre has undertaken extensive refurbishment and during the last twelve months has become the home of various groups and activities.  The building includes a large hall with stage, dance studio, large kitchen, Snooker Room, IT suite, meeting space and outdoor play space.  The snooker room has been adapted into a multi-use facility which now includes IT suite and meeting room.  The Centre is now buzzing with activity and many groups and organisations hire the building for events, fun-days and conferences.

GMAZZ Music Group has helped young people in the area to learn music skills in a 15 week programme which was part funded by Wythenshawe Regeneration Team and Manchester City Council CASH grant.  Following the success of this project, more funding has been obtained for instruments including keyboards, drumkit and guitars.

JazzyJ Street Dance Group have also moved into the centre and provides dance workshops for young people aged 5 to 19 each Saturday.  Other dance groups include Morris Dancing, Ballet and Tap as well as Ballroom Dancing groups for older people.

Gina Hall, Volunteer Centre Manager explains
Since taking over the day-to-day running and maintenance of the building, I have recruited a small, loyal team of volunteers who have helped to bring the centre back to its original glory. We have managed to beg, borrow and scrounge many resources  available with the voluntary and community sector and the support we have had has been immense, e.g. Business In The Community have organised a large team to come and decorate, local building contractors have been on hand to help with minor re-furbishment and Manchester Airport have given us desks and chairs.  Some of our successes would not have been possible if we hadn't worked effectively with local partners and organisations including Novas Scarman Group Manchester – Jayne Hargrave who without Jaynes help and guidance some of these networks would not have been made, Parkway Green Housing Trust, Manchester City Council and other similar groups to ours.

Many of our founder members have been involved in helping and supporting the improvements, using prior knowledge and experience, to bring the building up to a high standard
