In January 2009 I took on a secondment opportunity and joined Novas Scarman as a Locality Development Worker working closely with the Valuing Older People (VOP) team, a small team within Manchester’s Joint Health Unit.
I am responsible for establishing VOP Networks in identified areas across the city.

Successful networks already exist in neighbourhoods across east Manchester and bring together mainstream service providers and organisations that are responsible for delivering services specifically to older adults. Through the networks older adults living in the neighbourhoods have the opportunity to influence how these services are delivered.
Some networks have taken the lead in organising local events and all have a responsibility to keep older members of the community informed about network activity.

I’ve recently been supporting the Healthy Ardwick group who have developed a strategy to improve the quality of life of those who are 50+ living in Ardwick.
The proposals are fantastic and the future for older adults living in Ardwick definitely looks much brighter.
